1. Costume Safety:
    - Choose costumes that are flame-resistant.
    - Ensure costumes are the right size to prevent trips and falls.
    - Use makeup and face paint instead of masks, which can obstruct vision.
    -
2. Visibility:
    - Add reflective tape or stickers to costumes to make children more visible in the dark.
    - Carry a flashlight or glow sticks to illuminate pathways.
    -
3. Trick-or-Treating:
    - Children should always go trick-or-treating with a responsible adult or in a group if old enough.
    - Stick to well-lit areas and known neighborhoods.
    - Stay on sidewalks and use crosswalks when crossing streets.
    - Avoid cutting across yards or driveways.
    -
4. Traffic Safety:
    - Be cautious of traffic. Drivers may not always see trick-or-treaters.
    - Look both ways before crossing the street and make eye contact with drivers before crossing in front of them.
    - If driving, be extra vigilant and drive at reduced speeds on Halloween.
    -
5. Candy Inspection:
    - Inspect all candy before consuming it. Discard any unwrapped or suspicious-looking items.
    - Be aware of food allergies and sensitivities.
    -
6. Home Safety:
    - Keep pets in a separate, secure area during trick-or-treating to avoid stress or incidents.
    - Make sure your home is well-lit for visiting trick-or-treaters.
    -
7. Halloween Decorations:
    - Be cautious with candles in pumpkins or other decorations. Consider using battery-operated candles or glow sticks instead.
    - Keep decorations away from walkways to prevent tripping hazards.
    -
8. Stranger Danger:
    - Remind children not to enter anyone's home or car, even if they offer treats.
    - Teach children to say "no" and get away if someone makes them uncomfortable.
    -
9. Costume Accessories:
    - Avoid sharp or pointy costume accessories that could cause injury.
    - Ensure props like swords or wands are made of flexible, soft materials.
    - Make sure masks do not block eyes, ears, nose, or mouth.

10. Emergency Contact Information:
    - Make sure children know their home address and phone number or have it written down somewhere on their person.
    -
11. Communication:
    - Set a time for older kids to return home and establish a way to communicate with them if they have cell phones.
    -
12. Respect Others' Property:
    - Teach children to respect other people's property and not to vandalize or damage decorations.
    -
13. Be Mindful of Pet Safety:
    - Some pets can be frightened or stressed by costumes and decorations. Ensure they are secure and comfortable.
    -
By following these safety tips, you can help ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween for everyone involved. Remember that preparation and awareness are key to a fun and incident-free holiday.

Stuff happens. Stay prepared.
