Episode # 421 Five Firearms For SHTF Scenarios, Part One; The Modern Sporting Rifle"

This episode is the first of two episodes titled: Five Firearms For SHTF Scenarios”

Part one will cover the modern sporting rifle; AR-15 and AK-47
In the next episode we will cover the other four

As we begin any firearm related episode, we review the “Four Handgun Rules”
1.    Treat all firearms as if they are loaded
2.    Never let the muzzle point at anything that you are not willing to destroy
3.    Keep your finger off the trigger until your sights are on target and you have made the decision to shoot.
4.   Be sure of your target and what is behind it.

Five Firearms For SHTF Scenarios, Part One; The Modern Sporting rifle:

Every era has some weapon that is the era's “modern sporting rifle" based on military weapons.
     After the American Revolution
We saw the ball and cap emerge
After the Civil War – Lever Action Rifle
After WWI – Bolt Action Rifle
             Popularity of the 1903 Springfield
After WWII – The semi-auto rifle
            Modeled on the M1 Garand
Today – AR-15 is THE Most popular sporting rifle in America
Modeled on the Vietnam era M-16

The modern sporting rifle is an all weather, magazine fed, intermediate caliber semi-automatic rifle, particularly the AR-15 or AK-47 variants. They are known for their reliability, ease of use, and availability of ammunition, and are chambered in NATO calibers.

The Main Stream Media HATES this rifle and refers to it as an “Assault Rifle”
“Assault rifle” is a political term created by anti-gun legislators
Some media even say that “AR” stands for assault rifle
It does not. AR stands for "ArmaLite Rifle" which is the company that developed the M-16 and the AR-15

They try to blame the gun for violence rather than the criminal.
A very VERY small percentage of criminal acts are committed with ARs. The majority are committed by people who are already prohibited from possessing a firearm, with handguns that are stolen or obtained on the streets.

The Left sees the AR as the easiest firearm to ban initially.
They ask, “Who NEEDS an “Assault Rifle?”
You don’t have to have a “need” in order to own one, or three, or five. It is a right guaranteed by the Second Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

The leftist progressives are eating away at our rights one bite at a time
They are playing the long game, where their goal is total confiscation of all firearms from private citizens. Some have stated that emphatically, and they won’t quit trying. If they ever do reach their goal, the rest of our constitutional rights will begin to fall. Look at the history of Germany starting around 1932. Registration was implemented, then confiscation, and we know the history from there.

Let’s correct some misconceptions put forth by the media & left about the modern sporting rifles.

        AR-15: 5.56mm/.223 cal – NATO round
It is NOT a high powered rifle round  - it’s an intermediate powered rifle round

        AR-10: 7.62x51, 7.62 NATO, .308 Winchester
This IS a high powered rifle round

AK-74 (semi version of the AK-47)  7.62x39mm Eastern bloc military
intermediate power round

The AR-15 is NOT a machine gun. The trigger must be pulled each time it fires

Attaching a fore grip, or any other accessory, does not make it a more lethal weapon. It just makes it easier to hold, for some people.

A bayonet lug, or even does not make it more deadly. That’s for hand-hand combat when out of ammo

No other attachment will make the AR-15 more lethal.

It Will NOT fire 600-800 rounds per minute. That is the RATE of fire, - the rate at which it cycles

There are other options available if the modern sporting rifle is not allowed in your city or state, or is politically so anti-gun that they may try to ban the AR style rifles.

Semi-auto hunting rifles in common deer hunting calibers
                7 mm mag, .308, .30-06, .270, .243

        WWII military weapons
            M1 Garand - .30-06
This was the main battle rifle of WWII
            M1 Carbine - .30 caliber
                Small, lightweight, easy to use

            Lever action rifles
                .30-30, .357/.38

These rifles don’t “look” so threatening to those who are triggered by the sight of a gun, or even the mention of an AR-15, and may not quickly be the subject of ongoing firearms legislation.
