Episode # 411 "Twenty-four Items You May Have Forgotten For Your Get Home Bag"

Have you thought of everything you might need in your get home bag?
Here are twenty four things you may have forgotten.

Also, if you aren't  receiving the Practical Prepping Newsletter, go to the front page of the website, and click on "Free PDF." That will get you the free "Getting Started In Prepping" PDF and get you signed up for the newspaper.

These are items you could consider for a bug out bag or a get home bag

Activated Charcoal – It’s usually used for treating gas, but it can also be used to treat poisoning. It works by trapping chemicals and keeping them from being absorbed into your body--capsules are best.

Antifungal cream--Some rashes can get so bad that you’re unable to walk. This cream will clear that right up.

Baby Powder – Baby powder can be used as deodorant, to soothe dry skin, and to prevent chafing.

Battery Adapters – Imagine needing a C battery for something but only having AA batteries. Battery adapters solve this problem.

Bandanas - there are SO many uses for the bandana; pre-filtering water, lashing, first aid, even blowing your nose.

Binoculars – The importance of these should be obvious. If you can get to some high ground, you can look around and figure out which way you need to go, or spy out the voices you hear in the distance.

Bouillon Cubes – Just add one cube per cup of water and boil it. Use the broth to make soup.

Chalk – This could be used to leave messages for others, draw a map and strategize, or just entertain the children.

Chap Stick – Use this stuff to prevent blisters, help start fires, moisten chapped skin, lubricate your gear, stop small cuts from bleeding, and much more.

Clothesline and Pins – Even if you take a lot of clothes with you, you’ll still have to wash and dry them at some point.

Collapsible Bowl – This is a sturdy bowl that takes up very little space. Can be used as a dog watering bowl while walking your dog.

Collapsible Canvas Bucket – A bucket for hauling water or supplies, but since it’s collapsible, it won’t take up much space in your bag..

Dental First Aid Kit – Tooth pain can be excruciating, believe me, but a temporary filling can help relieve the pain until you can get to a dentist.

Dental Floss – Flossing is the most important thing you can do to keep your teeth clean, but it also has many other uses.

Deck of cards – Pass the time
If lost, play solitare, someone will come along and tell you to put the red four on the black five

Dice – a fun way to pass the time.

Ear Muffs – Frostbite on your ears will make you miserable. Don’t let that happen.

Electrolyte Replacement – pills or powders, help replace the electrolytes you’ll lose while walking.

Flash Drive – Scan all your important books, pictures, documents, forms of identification, and so forth on this key chain flash drive..

Frisbee – to pass the time

    many survival uses
                  Plate
                  Carry water

          Dig in soft ground

Gill Net – An easy way to catch fish. Just set it up on a small stream and wait

Goggles – if you have to swim,

Protect your eyes from debris during a storm

    Protect your eyes from smoke

Gum –if you also have a battery, you can use that and the gum wrapper to start a fire.

Hydrogen Peroxide – Pack a small bottle so you can prevent infections in cuts and scrapes.

Instant Coffee – I am a caffeine addict, carrying instant coffee can avoid caffeine headaches.
